When pressure triggers your inner critic. Learn to respond, not react.

Pressure can narrow perspective, fuel overthinking, and make performance harder than it needs to be. A more intentional response creates more ease, clarity, and effectiveness.

You are accomplished, capable, and performance driven. But when the stakes are high, automatic survival based reactions can take over. I teach accomplished, performance driven professionals how to shift through awareness, perspective, practice, and reflection so work and life can feel more like their best day on the mountain.

Discover a different way to meet stress and self doubt.

In this complimentary 45 minute session, we explore what is really driving the pressure, overthinking, and self doubt beneath the surface. Together, we look at how these inner critic driven patterns show up in your real work and life, what they are costing you, and what becomes possible when you respond differently.

You will leave with greater clarity about what is happening and a clearer sense of what the next step could be.

Does This Sound Familiar?

When something important is on the line, you may notice yourself tightening up. Pressure builds. Perspective narrows. Overthinking takes over. You second guess yourself, push harder, or rely on familiar habits that no longer serve you as well as they once did. Even an easy run starts to feel hard.

This is not a talent problem. It is often a reaction pattern.

And reaction patterns can be changed.

About Release the Hounds (and Me)

Steve Hancock

I’m Steve Hancock, a coach, instructor, and performance minded people developer who teaches accomplished, performance driven professionals to respond differently when pressure triggers their inner critic so work and life can feel more like their best day on the mountain.

Over more than 35 years in professional and sport settings, I’ve seen how small, foundational shifts in how we respond can change everything. From the chairlift to the office chair, I’ve learned that when pressure triggers the inner critic, people default to survival based reactions. That often creates narrowed perspective, second guessing, and performance that is less clear, less effective, and less sustainable than it could be. There is a more skillful way down the mountain.

My background in psychology, business management, professional coaching, mental fitness, and decades in professional and sport settings shapes a practical and distinctive lens for creating lasting positive change. It helps me see how pressure triggers inner critic driven, survival based reactions, and how to teach people to shift toward more intentional responses, to lead and live, with dynamic balance, clearer perspective, and more sustainable performance.

Release the Hounds reflects my approach: helping people set their strengths free from patterns that create unnecessary pressure, overthinking, and self doubt.

At its core, Release the Hounds is about serving you: Helping You Win, on your terms. Every step is powered by what’s already great within you, just waiting to be released.

Release the Hounds Coaching is intentionally named. It’s about two kinds of freedom: releasing yourself from the ‘hounds’ of inner patterns and default reactions that work against you, (your Saboteurs), and recalibrating your ‘hounds’ existing strengths so they’re free to be guided by your wiser, calmer side (your Sage). Saboteurs are the inner patterns that hijack you under stress; Sage is the calmer, clearer part of you that sees options and solutions.

You keep the drive, performance, and competence you’ve already built, without the negative side‑effects of overwork, pressure, or self‑doubt, and let those strengths run free towards what matters most.

Release the Hounds is all about 3 HOWs

Helping Others Win

We begin with your definition of what better looks like. The focus is not on fixing you. It is on helping you move toward the outcomes that matter most in your work and life.

Honest, Open, Willing

Real change starts with honest awareness. Together, we look clearly at the inner critic patterns creating pressure, overthinking, and self doubt, and open space for a different response.

Habits Over Willpower

Lasting change does not come from pushing harder. It comes from building simple neuroscience informed habits that support more clarity, calm, and effectiveness.
